Vacationing in Rome can be entertaining as well as educational. Ancient structures, famous landmarks and family fun can be found all over Rome. Here you can view some of Rome’s finest relics, including statues, sarcophagi, jewellery coins and hundreds of other displays. The National Gallery of Modern Art is home to 19th and 20th century art including that of Renoir, Van Gogh, and Goya.
The Vatican City is where you will see St. Peter’s Basilica. One of the most important of the Catholic churches and the home of the Pope, the interior will dazzle you. Decorated with gold, marble and bronze, it is a beautiful sight to see. Michelangelo’s Pieta is the highlight for many visitors. The Sistine Chapel, adjacent to the Basilica, was built in 1475. The Pope’s chapel is a fantastic place to unwind, pray and gaze in wonder at one of Michelangelo’s most famous works on the ceiling. The wall frescoes are not to be missed so take time out from the spectacular ceiling to check them out.
One of Rome’s most popular free attractions is the Trevi fountain. Completed in 1762, the marble fountain is adorned with seahorses, mermen, and cascading pools. The sea God Neptune oversees all. Legend has it that throwing a coin into the fountain will guarantee you a return trip to Rome.
For those wanting to savour the food in Rome, Montecarlo, located near the Piazza Navona, has the most mouth-watering pizza you could want. If classic Rome is what you desire in a restaurant, Antica Pesa is what you seek. Romantic Italian dining at its finest. And for traditional Roman cuisine, Maccheroni has Italian specialties, and Italy’s finest wines.
